EXECUTIVE PRODUCER MSN/APPS, MEDIA AND PUBLISHING




The Executive Producer (“EP”) is a member of the MSN/Bing Apps leadership team, one of Microsoft’s most dynamic business groups. S/he is in charge, and responsible for the overall availability/production of all forms of content (text, audio, and video), for the Media Network (MSN and Windows 8 consumer information Apps), driving the creation, acquisition, and rendering, of the user experience. S/he is responsible for product quality and availability, editorial strategy and editorial quality and tone, user experience and engagement, people and organizational processes associated with content creation and deployment. In addition, the EP is responsible for understanding the monetization and business goals of the Media Network, so that content can be created in an appropriately monetizable way.

The Executive producer will, with the support the Editor-in-Chief, develop and acquire content and content partners that is in alignment with the overall media network goals. As new platforms and content emerge, the EP will collaborate with key stakeholders to identify opportunities to use those platforms for distribution of content, and make recommendations for Company actions. The EP will be an ambassador of change throughout the organization. S/he will identify key change initiatives to streamline content development, publishing, and business operations.

The EP is responsible for developing and executing a content plan that is in synch with the overall business plan, as defined by the MSN leadership team. The EP’s primary goal is to grow user engagement by increasing share of online minutes and page views per unique users, therefore boosting (i) MSN to either the #1 or #2 portal positions in country, and; (ii) Windows 8 consumer information Apps to “best in class” from a content experience perspective. This person manages directly the local team and interacts regularly with multiple teams across the region, and various Microsoft business groups.

In the context of monetization, the EP will work closely with the local Advertising & Online (“A&O”) team, and participate as a key member of that group’s leadership team.


Key Responsibilities:


•Building the audience and engagement level and helping to appropriately monetize that inventory
•Set and drive editorial policy and quality control in alignment and determined by the global leadership, and localized to the standards and environment of the market.
•Ultimate responsibility for the quality of content properties shipped to consumers – providing input during the planning cycles and feedback during testing and deployment to the market.
•Establish specific quality metrics and performance goals. Indoctrinate quality, and metrics into Media Network business model, putting users at the center
•Build annual editorial calendar, content and programming budgets for all media network properties in collaboration with manager, local sales managers and finance
•Follow developments, around technology evolutions in consumers’ content adoption and usage trends across all industries. Educate Media Network management and employees on the present and future of content consumption
•Owns budget and content decisions for the portal and related distribution in alternative channels (e.g. Bing.com gadgets, mobile, Windows 8 consumer information Apps, etc.)
•Capitalize on the human resources of the Media Network local team by developing managers and individual contributors
•Runs the team which produces the site/s day to day - e.g. editors, analysts, etc.
•Manage and drive editorial partnerships, negotiate and deal with top level publishing groups
Focus on numbers and business figures. Particular attention to analytics and to product metrics


Knowledge and Experience:

•Strategic visionary
•A seasoned media leader who has held key management roles in content operations with a proven track record of building successful publishing properties, both traditional and online
•7+ years of working experience as a producer in a News organization, magazine, radio, TV station, newspaper or digital medium
•Deep knowledge of the Australian and New Zealand media and culture
•Deep understanding of how online platforms work - driving cross network and integration between search, portal(s) and communication services.
•Great passion and know how to deliver a premium product quality and user experience on several devices and destinations (PC, TV, Phone, Games Consoles)
•Passion for online media and demonstrable understanding of audience trends and competitors, as well as a clear understanding of how to attract, engage, maintain & monetize audience
•Demonstrated ability to lead large teams and lead managers
•Experience in working in matrix organizations
•Experience in working with remote team members
•Experience of business development and contractual agreements
•Mature and co-operative style with partner organizations and teams
•Stellar presentation and communication skills, with the ability to represent the portal compellingly to multiple stakeholders and audiences, both inside and outside Microsoft.

Technical/Functional Skills:

•Demonstrable skills in media business leadership
•Skilled in editorial operational roles
•Experience of publishing systems and CMS
•Skilled in MSFT consumer software, especially Excel
•Strong project management skills
