The Medical Imaging Scientist in the Division of Radiation Oncology provides technical and scientific support to the Physicians, Physicists and Therapists as it relates to the integration of imaging modalities into the clinic. Requirements: EDUCATION: MSc in Biomedical Engineering, Medical Physics, Medical Radiation Science, Computer Sciences, Electrical Engineering, or a related scientific field. Preferred: PhD in Biomedical Engineering, Medical Physics, Medical Radiation, Computer Sciences, Electrical Engineering, or a related scientific field. EXPERIENCE: 2 years current experience (MSc candidates) or 1 year current experience (PhD candidates) in medical image analysis and image processing. Preferred: Programming experience with MATLAB, C++, Java and working with DICOM file structures is desired. Experience with PET/CT or radiation therapy is a plus. Detailed knowledge and experience in the following areas is preferable: Image registration or segmentation. Numerical optimisation techniques PET/SPECT/CT/MRI analysis. Collaborative projects in a clinical environment LANGUAGE SKILLS: English Advance. COMPUTER SKILLS: Intermediate, Proficient in the use of email and the Internet for research purposes. Also experience in the use of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint. You will have exceptional opportunities to develop your career in a professionally stimulating environment POSITION SUMMARY The Medical Imaging Scientist in the Division of Radiation Oncology provides technical and scientific support to the Physicians, Physicists and Therapists as it relates to the integration of imaging modalities into the clinic. PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES • Demonstrates knowledge and application of the Medical Corporation mission, vision and values. • Design image acquisition procedures and protocols for clinical studies employing imaging for patient and/or treatment assessment. • Develop and implement strategies for PET-CT and MRI acquisition and optimizes image quality for radiation therapy simulation, tumor characterization, and volume delineation, and treatment planning. • Design and implement image analysis and interpretation procedures for the quantitative assessment of clinical imaging data. • Work closely with Medical Physicists, Radiation Oncologists and Radiation Therapists to ensure acquisition of high quality imaging data. • Develop software algorithms and tools for analysis of medical image data. • Invent and develop algorithms for feature extraction, classification, detection, and quantification. • Development of algorithms for multimodality image analysis. • Leverage imaging physics to enhance algorithmic performance. • Establish validation and verification strategies. • Establish clinical collaborations for external validation of algorithms. • Provide project oversight for engineers and clinical staff, collaborates with staff scientists in the department and provides professional inputs in research and clinical protocol design of medical imaging acquisition.
