Senior Architect - PaaS/SaaS Sydney Job

Job details
As an architect at Atlassian you will join an engineering-led company and the award-winning leader in software development and collaboration tools with over 25000 customers. We're looking for a results-driven technical leader to help steer our OnDemand SAAS rocket ship. You'll be part of a team building software services, tackling reliability, availability and performance as we scale, and optimising how we deliver applications and services into an always-on, growing-like-mad environment. The ideal candidate will bring deep experience with large-scale offerings and all the challenges inherent to high-profile internet-facing services.
This is both a leadership and hands-on position. Part thinker, designer, coder, writer, speaker, influencer, herder, teacher, mentor.

What you'll do:

  • As part of the hosted technology leadership team, help define the SAAS/PAAS strategy, services architecture, application decomposition, delivery approach, etc.
  • Work closely with multiple teams building high performance "common" services utilised by all of our applications (e.g.; auth, identity, search, persistance...).
  • Work closely with the infrastructure teams to drive scale, performance and availability of the delivered services and applications.
  • Work closely with application teams on evolving architectures and approach.
  • Work with Product Management to contribute to roadmaps and priorities for our hosted services offerings.
  • Drive tactical and long term strategic initiatives. Deliver the present and future.
  • Lead and mentor engineers and other architects.
  • Proselytise.

Who we're looking for:

  • Extensive background in full-stack development, SOA architectures, API and protocol design, networking, internet topology, virtualisation.
  • Solid experience with current PAAS and IAAS offerings (e.g., AWS/Beanstalk, Heroku, GAE, CouldFoundry, Docker, etc...).
  • Deep understanding of high-availability, fault-tolerant, scalable systems.
  • Proven experience "fixing the plane while in flight" (not just greenfield solutions).
  • Strong skills in software construction and integration patterns.
  • Strong network of colleagues and advisors.
  • This can't be your first time around the block.

You're the right fit if:

  • You thrive on the energy present in 24x7 services
  • You are on top of the latest trends, but also see through the BS
  • You go deep on technology
  • You ask tough questions
  • You recognise great software architecture
  • You still love to code
  • You are both principled and pragmatic
  • You throw rocks at ivory towers
  • You are fanatically data-driven
  • You think 500ms is a long time
  • You think 99% uptime sucks
  • You hate maintenance windows
  • You can debate ideas with both developers and non-technical people
  • You naturally work cross functionally
  • You communicate well in writing, and are a confident public speaker
  • You are a great recruiter and ideally have a network of people who would follow you anywhere
  • You love to teach as well as do
Come and talk to us! Join a culture of openness and honesty, with no bullshit and no bureaucracy.
