Therefore applicants with comparable experience are preferred. Overseas trained GPs in Australia are required to work in designated ‘districts of workforce shortage’ (DWS) for 10 years. This isn’t as bad it sounds. There are plenty of good DWS jobs available not far from capital cities. • Employers prefer Doctors with postgraduate General Practice (GP) qualifications (like MRCGP, CFPC, Master of Family Medicine etc) and a minimum of 3 years of full-time postgraduate overseas GP experience. • Doctors without postgraduate GP qualifications must have at least 5 years of full-time GP experience and completion of the AMCMCQ or be eligible for AMC Advanced Standing certificate.
